Bong Srei Leadership

The Bong Srei (“older sister” in Khmer) is Banteay Srei’s cascading mentorship and leadership program where alumni become youth leaders of Banteay Srei. They attend an intensive leadership training at the beginning of the academic calendar, develop curriculum and programming, co-facilitate workshops with the Community Health Specialist, and further develop their leadership skills. Each month, Bong Srei youth leaders also attend a leadership training, topics ranging from working with different personalities to conflict mediation, in order to sharpen their leadership skills. The Bong Sreis are mentored by the staff but also mentor the current youth participants.

Jasmine is a Bong Srei. She considers herself a boba addict and loves hanging out with her friends to eat food. This year, she looks forward to getting closer to her fellow Bong Sreis and working on her leadership skills.

Kathy is a Bong Seri and has been involved in Banteay Srei since her freshman year. She is currently a senior who enjoys painting and visual arts. UCLA is one of her dream schools, but she is open to other schools.”

Queenie is a senior at American Indian Public High School. Some of her favorite pastimes include listening to music, journaling, and doing modern calligraphy. She joined Banteay Srei in hopes of exploring more of her SEA identity and uplift the young women in the community. She’s very excited to start a new chapter of Banteay Srei with her sistas!

Elizabeth is a sophomore at Oakland Tech High School! She does outreach for Tech’s Asian Student Union, and through the meetings, she got involved with Banteay Srei. She looks forward to becoming more familiar with the Banteay Srei community and being able to get to know and uplift her sistas as a Bong Srei.
